Watch Thou, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give thine angels charge over those who sleep. Tend thy sick ones. Rest thy weary ones. Bless thy dying ones. Soothe thy suffering ones. Pity thine afflicted ones. Shield thy joyous ones. And all, for Love’s sake. Amen.
adapted from St. Augustine’s evening prayer, 4th century A.D.

This post is 8/56 in a self-directed challenge to write (or at least post) something (SOMETHING) every day – a birthday gift to me from me, because writing gives me a place to put the clutter that lives in my head.
I have had a copy of this prayer in my bedside table for 20 years. I think it’s beautiful.
