Today is #GivingTuesday, and the world needs your help. Today you’ll be hearing even more from people like me who work in nonprofits about how you can help someone in need.

So, keep it simple: help.

Make an investment in humanity today, whether your capacity to give is $10 or $10,000. Find something that matters to you – music, pets, clean water, children, public radio, endangered birds, meals-on-wheels, medical assistance, cancer research, schools – and put your money toward the change you want to see in the world. Support as many different things that you care about as you can; you don’t have to pick only one. Charity Navigator, Guidestar, and the Giving Tuesday website can help you find nonprofits right in your neighborhood.

And yes, I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask directly: You can help vulnerable families break the cycle of violence and abuse with a gift to The Exchange Club Family Center. Better yet, if you’re in Memphis come by for a visit. I’d love to show you around.

As my friend Lisa used to remind me, every holiday season when the blood supply was empty (again) and I was worn out from being on constant appeal:

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
